Geospatial and Demographic study of Fasciola hepatica infection in Buffalo of Punjab, Pakistan

Abstract

A total of 4800 fecal samples from four distinct districts in Punjab Province (Pakistan) were analyzed under a microscope in order to ascertain the prevalence of fasciolosis in buffaloes. After two years, the evaluation of fecal samples revealed an overall prevalence of 17.46%. Gujranwala (18.25%) had the highest infection rate, followed by Lahore (18.08%), Kasur (17.67%), and Sheikhupura (15.83%). There is no discernible difference (P>0.05) between the infections in any of the locations. Compared to juvenile buffaloes (8.82%), infection was considerably (P<0.01) greater in mature buffaloes (>2 years). Although it was discovered that males were more vulnerable (15.43%) than females (14.64%), there was no statistically significant difference in the infections in the two sexes.
